Washing both sides is not cosmetic. Moisture makes wood fibers swell; exposing only one face repeatedly encourages uneven movement and warping. Use warm water that is comfortable for hand washing, not a prolonged boiling rinse. Soap and mechanical action lift ordinary food film.
